Laura Cathcart Robbins is an avid reader and dreamed of one day penning her own book. In 2018, she arrived excited at a popular writer’s retreat, only to leave dismayed when she realized she was the only black person there. A few days later, an article she wrote about her experience went viral on the Huffington Post. It led to a movement that eventually grew into a podcast.
